imperfect cut?
Received the bead in the mail and at first thought it had bashed into the smokey quartz. Since that was undamaged, looked hard at the ruby. It is more pink than you'd expect, stone color more like. Inclusions set aside, it seems that the hardness of the gem made it hard to cut, in combination leaving a lighter spot that has a larger facet than surrounding - all in all just about good enigheid to not send back, but not the perfect cut of an imperfect stone we'd expected.
